X-Wife

Formed in 2002 by João Vieira (vocals/guitar), Fernando Sousa (bass) and Rui Maia (Synthesizers/ drums/drum machine), Portuguese X-Wife set their world-class standard early on: "Rockin’ Rio" (2003), their debut EP, was a real "stone in the pond", introducing a band building on a post-punk inheritance from bands like Suicide or Gang of Four, managing to consolidate avast modern lexicon that was already very much their own, where distortion and analogue electronics from a vintage drum machine served an ambitious, well informed song writing style.

"Feeding the machine" (2004), the first full length album, confirmed and furthered the expectations generated by "Rockin’ Rio", receiving international acclaim and praise from LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy. Their second album, "Side Effects" (2006), licensed in Spain by Pupilo Records, showed the work of a band that continuously strives to improve, where the drum machine gave way to live drums.

Last September saw the released of their third and best effort so far. "Are You Ready For The Blackout?" is a record in which X-Wife assert themselves with a musical language and sound that is all their own, with a unique aesthetic coherence that is both modern and timeless. So if your iPod is filled with tunes by CSS, LCD Soundsystem, The Rapture or DFA 1979 make sure to visit X-Wife on Myspace.
