Punk Bunny vs the Banana song

Last Friday, our musical robot on WaveRadio, DJ ME8H, played a track called "The price is right" by Punk Bunny. Part of its melody (where it says "80 dollars, gimme a holla") reminded me of a YouTube video I'd seen called "My hands are bananas", so my first reaction was to think the Bananas people copied Punk Bunny. However, it turns out Punk Bunny may have been the copycats in this case, because their song was released in December 2007, whereas the Bananas video was uploaded on YouTube in the summer of 2006 and has had more than 5 million views since. In any case, they are both musical and visual masterpieces, so check 'em out!

Benjamin Steiger Levine

Who's that, I hear you ask. Well, he's a very talented Canadian director, to say the least. Apart from a handful of short films, he directed the video for "Fancy Footwork" by Chromeo (see below). More importantly, he did an awe-inspiring video last year, for a band called The Socalled, which you must watch here.

Both videos are available for download here, where you can also find great music videos by other directors when you're in your 'explorer' mood. One more reason to love Canadians.

RADIO/ACTIVITY..AGAIN:P

C U THERE!
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

MADONNA MADNESS

Πέμπτη 25 Σεπτεμβρίου Madonna Day All Day: Από το πρωί μέχρι το βράδυ οι web radio producers του waveradio.gr επιλέγουν όποια από τα ατελείωτα τραγούδια στην καριέρα της Madonna τους ταιριάζουν και ...πορεύονται

DANGER!DANGER!

United States - New York

French artist extraordinaire Franck Rivoire, producing under the moniker Danger, has become notorious amongst many and recognized for his exceptional synth heavy production, that he describes as ‘French Touch new electro’. His music evokes complexity and a sense of darkness, stirring the emotions of his devotees, causing an insatiable desire for more. I’ve often envisioned Danger’s music playing in the background to an Osamu Tezuka anime, which seems quite fitting given his childhood influences.

Just five years back, Danger was a self-proclaimed chiptune geek, creating game music. His direction changed and his music has flourished since the days of past and in recent months, Danger has remixed tracks for Midnight Juggernauts, ‘Into the Galaxy‘ and Sébastien Tellier, ‘Divine‘. But it was his first few brilliant productions, ‘11h30‘, ‘14H54‘, ‘19H11‘, that paved the way for what was to come. Signed to the Parisian label Ekler’o’shock, Danger continues to push the limits of his craft, taking us into the future. As a long time favorite of mine, I wanted to know what is behind the mind of Danger, so a few months back, I exchanged a bit of Q&A with him. After a long delay and the responses properly translated, here you have his answers in French and English.

The Freak Show TOP5 (Sept2008)

No1. Van she - Strangers
Van She is a band from SydneyAustralia. Their label, Modular Recordings, describes Van She as a "new band from Sydney fresh on ideas, fresher than Flavor Flav, fresh like coriander, fresher than the Fresh Prince."[1] Despite these claims, the  band began with a sound very much rooted in the 80s, heavy on synthesizer, although later material reflects a more textured sound.

No2. Tiga & Zyntherius - Sunglasses @ night (alter ego remix)
Tiga (IPA/tiːgə/) is the stage name of Montreal-born DJ/producer Tiga James Sontag (born 1974). His album Sexor won the 2007 Juno Award for Dance Recording of the Year.

No3. The Presets - Talk like that
The Presets are a Sydney-based electronic duo, consisting of Julian Hamilton and Kim Moyes. The Presets are signed to Sydney record label Modular Recordings.

No4.M83 - Kim & Jessie
M83 is an electronic music group consisting of Anthony Gonzalez (and formerly Nicolas Fromageau), and was formed in AntibesFrance in 2001. The name M83 is picked from thegalaxy of the same name. The musical style owes something to the shoegazing genre in its extensive use of reverb effects and lyrics spoken softly over loud instrumentals.

No5. CSS - Move (Cut Copy mix)
Cansei de Ser Sexy (pronounced [kɐ̃'seɪ dʒɪ ser 'sɛksɪ], literally "got tired of being sexy" inBrazilian Portuguese), better known worldwide as CSS, is a Brazilian band from São Paulo. Their songs have an electro/rock sound, and are sung in both English and Portuguese; their lyrics mostly concern pop culture.
